Talk About Kindness

Jhaqueil Reagan had been walking through snow and ice early one morning when Art Bouvier, owner of a restaurant in Indianapolis spotted him in a parking lot. When Reagan asked him how far it was to his destination, he was told it was at least six or seven miles.

Bouvier suggested that he would be better off taking a bus, but Reagan continued on.

“He could have asked me for money for a bus. In fact I quite expected him to. He didn’t. He just started walking,” Bouvier said.

As he continued driving on with his wife, he spotted Reagan still making his way down the road on foot. Bouvier called to him to get into the car, and learned he was walking several miles just to get to an interview for a potential minimum-wage job. He couldn’t afford fare for a bus and planned to walk more than two hours. He hadn’t eaten that day.

Bouvier provided money not only for his lunch — he gave him a position at his restaurant so he wouldn’t have to trek ten miles to work.
